Overview
Project configuration captures the choices that shape AlphaTales planning. The most important choice is whether the project is an internal app or a customer app.
Audience, app type, and customer context influence research, workflow planning, features, architecture, PRD availability, and Dev Pack content.
Internal App Configuration
Choose Internal apps when the tool is for your own organization. Internal projects are best for:
- Approval workflows.
- Dashboards and reporting.
- Admin consoles.
- Data management tools.
- Self-service portals.
- Search assistants.
- Automation and operations tools.
Internal app configuration focuses on roles, tasks, systems, controls, permissions, reporting, and success outcomes.
Customer App Configuration
Choose Customer apps when the product is for external customers, partners, consumers, or developers.
Customer projects can use customer context such as:
- B2B - You sell to businesses.
- B2C - You sell to consumers.
- B2B2C - You reach users through another organization.
- Dev Tool - You build for developers.
Customer configuration focuses on product purpose, target users, market context, customer workflow, PRD, and external handoff.
Choose Application Types
Choose the application types that apply to the first build:
- Web.
- Mobile.
- Desktop.
- API.
- Other.
Select only the surfaces that matter for the project direction. Extra app types can make planning broader than needed.
Review Configuration Before Planning
Check configuration before starting Project Breakdown. The wrong audience can send the project into the wrong research and handoff path.
Tip: If the work is mainly about team operations, approvals, reporting, or internal data, start with Internal apps.
Next Steps
After configuration is accurate, continue through Project Breakdown, research, workflow, features, Technical Architecture, and Dev Pack.
