Overview
The audit log gives team Owners and Admins a complete record of important actions taken within the workspace. Every significant change -- from adding a member to deleting a project -- is logged with a timestamp and the user who performed it. This helps maintain accountability and supports compliance requirements.
What the Audit Log Tracks
The audit log records actions that affect your team, projects, and security settings. It captures:
- Who performed the action (the user's name and email).
- What they did (the type of event).
- When it happened (date and timestamp).
- Additional details relevant to the specific event.
Types of Events Recorded
Team Membership Events
- Member invited to the team.
- Invitation accepted or declined.
- Join request submitted, approved, or rejected.
- Member removed from the team.
Role and Permission Changes
- Member role changed (e.g., Contributor promoted to Admin).
- License assigned to or revoked from a member.
Project Events
- Project created.
- Project archived or unarchived.
- Project deleted.
- Team member added to or removed from a project.
Security Events
- Team settings updated (e.g., domain access rules changed).
- Authentication events for team members.
Tip: Check the audit log regularly to stay aware of changes happening across your workspace. This is especially useful for larger teams where you may not be involved in every decision.
Viewing the Audit Log
Owners and Admins can access the audit log from the Team Management area. The log displays events in reverse chronological order (newest first) so you always see the most recent activity at the top.
Each entry shows:
- The event type (e.g., "Member Invited," "Role Changed").
- The user who triggered the event.
- The timestamp of when it occurred.
- Any relevant details (e.g., the new role assigned, the project name).
Filtering and Searching
For teams with a large volume of activity, you can filter the audit log by:
- Event type -- Show only membership changes, project events, or security events.
- Date range -- Narrow down to a specific time period.
- User -- See all actions performed by a specific team member.
Warning: The audit log is read-only. Entries cannot be edited or deleted, ensuring an accurate historical record.
Using Audit Logs for Compliance
If your organization has compliance requirements (such as SOC 2 or internal governance policies), the audit log provides:
- A tamper-proof record of all significant actions.
- User accountability for every change.
- Time-stamped evidence of when actions occurred.
- Documentation of access control changes (role assignments, member additions and removals).
Export the audit log data when you need to provide evidence for audits or reviews.
