Overview

AlphaTales provides a self-service billing system that lets you manage your subscription, adjust team size, and view invoices. All billing actions are available from the subscription management page within your account settings.

Viewing Your Current Plan

Navigate to your subscription page to see your current plan details, including:

  • Plan name and description
  • Status (Active, Trial, Canceled, or Past Due)
  • Cost per billing period
  • Renewal date or cancellation date
  • Seat count (for Team plans)

Your current plan is clearly marked with a badge so you can quickly identify it.

Upgrading Your Plan

  1. From the subscription page, view the available pricing plans.
  2. Use the Monthly / Annual toggle to see pricing for each billing interval.
  3. Click Upgrade on the plan you want.
  4. You will be taken to a secure checkout page to complete payment.
  5. After successful payment, your new plan is active immediately.

Tip: Switching from monthly to annual billing saves you up to 17%. Look for the savings badge next to annual pricing.

Downgrading Your Plan

To move to a lower-tier plan, navigate to the pricing section and select the plan you want to switch to. If you are on a paid plan and want to return to Free, cancel your current subscription (see below) and your account will automatically downgrade to Free at the end of your billing period.

Managing Team Seats

If you are on a Team plan, you can adjust the number of seats:

  1. On your subscription card, click Manage Seats.
  2. In the dialog that opens, enter the new number of seats (between 1 and 50).
  3. Review the cost comparison showing your current and new pricing.
  4. Click Update Seats.

How Seat Changes Work

  • Adding seats takes effect immediately. A prorated charge is applied for the remainder of the billing period.
  • Removing seats takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle. You retain access to all seats until then.

Cancelling Your Subscription

  1. On your subscription card, click Cancel Plan.
  2. A confirmation dialog shows when your plan will end and explains that you will be downgraded to the Free tier afterward.
  3. Click Yes, Cancel Subscription to confirm.

After cancellation:

  • Your current plan remains active until the end of the billing period.
  • You will not be charged again.
  • After the period ends, your account moves to the Free plan.

Warning: Cancelling does not immediately remove access. Your paid features remain available until the end of the billing period shown in the confirmation.

Reactivating a Canceled Subscription

If you canceled but change your mind before the billing period ends, click Reactivate on your subscription card. Your plan will resume and continue renewing automatically.

Accessing the Billing Portal

Click the Billing Portal button on your subscription card to open the external billing portal. From there you can:

  • View and download past invoices
  • Update your payment method
  • Review billing history

Understanding Subscription Statuses
