Overview

Market Research produces a detailed report that clarifies what you are building, who it is for, and which risks or opportunities matter. After completing Project Breakdown, use this step to review market context and prepare for Workflow Alignment.

What Gets Analysed

When you start market research, AlphaTales investigates eight key areas of your project:

  • Problem Definition -- What exactly needs solving and why it matters.
  • Target Users -- Who they are, what they need, how they behave.
  • Market Patterns -- Proven workflows, trends, and category signals.
  • Opportunities -- Gaps, differentiation levers, and unmet needs.
  • Risks & Constraints -- Technical, market, and execution blockers.
  • Competitive Context -- How alternatives solve this today and where they fall short.
  • Evidence & Signals -- Data points that validate or challenge assumptions.
  • Confidence Score -- How ready you are to proceed to feature planning.

Starting Market Research

Open the Market Research page from your project sidebar. You see an introduction screen explaining what research helps you do:

  • Clarify the problem, users, and goals.
  • Understand proven market and workflow patterns.
  • Surface risks, constraints, and technical realities.
  • Identify meaningful opportunity areas.
  • Generate grounded context for planning and AI execution.

Click Start Market Research to begin. The AI processes your project breakdown data and generates a comprehensive research report.

Tip: The more detail you provide in your project description and project breakdown, the more accurate and actionable the research output will be.

Research in Progress

While research is running, a banner appears showing "Running market research..." along with the current status. You can cancel the research at any time using the Cancel button.

The process typically takes 30 to 90 seconds depending on the complexity of your project.

Reading the Research Report

Once research completes, a full research report appears as a formatted document with clearly labeled sections. Each section covers one of the eight analysis areas, presenting findings in structured headings, lists, and summaries.

Scroll through the report to review all sections. The report is designed to be read top-to-bottom as a comprehensive analysis.

Editing and Exporting

To edit the report, click the Edit Report option from the actions menu. Make your changes in the editor and save when done.

You can export the research report in two formats:

  • PDF -- A formatted document suitable for sharing with stakeholders.
  • DOCX -- A Word document for teams that work in Microsoft Office.

How It Feeds Workflow Alignment

Market Research is not only a report. It also gives Workflow Alignment better input for the questions that follow. Those questions help AlphaTales understand the main users, decisions, constraints, and outcomes before Application Workflow is generated.

Once you are satisfied with your market research, continue to Workflow Alignment. There you answer the product decisions that shape the first application workflow.
